Since our initial Trend Report in 2012, we have been committed to analyzing upcoming trends that drive and motivate consumers, the importance of trust and transparency, the prevalence of shifting gender roles in the workplace, and the global shift towards sustainability and limiting environmental footprints. In this year’s Looking Further with Ford 2017 Trend Report, we reexamine those trends, and take a deeper look into new trends, such as the importance of consumer’s time, the stress the amount of choices available creates, the prevalence of shorter attention spans, and the importance of community.

One significant trend covered in the report is the importance of ‘Championing Change’ to consumers. We identified a growing consumer realization that when it comes to many pressing societal issues – from civil rights to the environment – the responsibility for creating change often gets passed back and forth between a variety of institutions and individuals. This insight helps us frame our expansion into both an auto and mobility company, as we reaffirm our commitment to making a positive, substantial impact on people’s lives – even if they don’t own a vehicle.

The insights Sheryl and her team have uncovered over the past five years of creating the trend report, have driven not only how Ford thinks, but how we build and innovate. The important shifts uncovered have played – and continue to play – a key role in pushing innovation and change toward the positive. With more and more accountability placed on brands to be transparent and truthful, Ford is paving the way in creating and innovating a positive future by embracing these positive changes and influencing others to do the same.
