Manager, Responsible Materials Sourcing
Alessandra Carreon is living her passion for helping others and improving the environment – both at work and at home.
In her role as a global sustainability specialist at Ford, Alessandra is part of the team responsible for developing and implementing Ford’s corporate sustainability strategy. Specifically, her focus is on environmental regulations and sustainable material strategies, including the use of recycled and renewable plastics in Ford vehicles. She also leads a social initiative called SHE-MOVES that is designed to engage women entrepreneurs in India, South Africa and Nigeria in projects that benefit other women and children in their communities through mobility services.
“Our group thinks about how Ford can continuously improve its performance in advancing sustainability and making a positive impact on the world,” she said.

Social and environmental issues also play an important role in Alessandra’s personal life. She installed solar panels on her home, looks continuously for ways to recycle, reuse and compost, and pays careful attention to the ethical practices of the companies she patronizes. She also volunteers with non-profit groups that support sustainability and community development in Detroit and is co-owner of a small business that is designed with the people in the neighborhood it serves in mind.
“It’s a low-profit LLC in southwest Detroit that we’re turning into a worker-owned company so that the wealth the business generates can stay within the neighborhood,” she said. “Our mission is also aligned with social and environmental justice objectives. We never compromise how we’re treating people or the planet for profit.”
Alessandra says her career and lifestyle complement one another.
“It’s not one versus the other; they’re very much connected,” she said. “I learn a lot from Ford and I also gain a lot of insight from the people I work with in the community that helps me bring a different perspective to the company.”
